There was one detail about this project that makes it especially meaningful. Designed Stairs built the original staircase nearly 30 years ago. When the homeowners decided to modernize their home, they came back to the company that built it in the first place. For us, this wasn’t simply another remodel. It was an opportunity to update one of our own staircases while seeing firsthand how it had performed after nearly three decades of everyday use. The result was exactly what we hope every customer experiences. After almost 30 years, the staircase remained structurally sound with no squeaks, no creaks, and no structural cracking. The style had become dated—but the craftsmanship had stood the test of time.
The Opportunity
The surrounding home had been beautifully remodeled with new flooring, fresh finishes, updated millwork, and a modern board-and-batten wall. The staircase was one of the few remaining architectural features that still reflected the home’s original design. Rather than recommending a complete replacement, we evaluated the existing structure and determined it was an excellent candidate for renovation.

The Design

The renovation included square newel posts, black iron balusters, updated handrails, and architectural details that complemented the surrounding remodel. Every design decision was made to ensure the staircase looked like it had always belonged in the home.
